Answers to Q&A
Why did you want to become a model?
My mother was a ballet dancer and choreographer. I loved being surrounded by her and her friends from that world. We danced, created scenes and looked at countless magazines together for inspiration. Seeing them being a part of the creative process felt super fun and fulfilling… I thought it was so amazing that this was their job. Actually looking at Vogue and GQ back then started to crystallize the idea of being a model for me. I loved to see the editorials on location and imagined what the models’ lives must have been like. That the story board and inspiration was transmitted by them and that they were part of a process captivated me.
What makes you special?
One of the reasons I feel I am special is that I have a lot of experience in this industry and a deep respect for the creative process. I am a blend of someone who understands elegance and ease but has a rigorous discipline of physicality and fitness. I am also very well travelled and well read. I speak 5 languages fluently which clients from all over the world love and appreciate…. I try to add cultural depth to whatever I am involved with.
What are you passionate about?
Like mentioned before, I am passionate about the creative process. I really enjoy being part of a team with a vision. To see the final product knowing what went into it is like taking a voyage to somewhere new. Sharing input and trusting each of the different professionals involved is really magical.
If you could give an aspiring model any advice, what would it be?
I would advise an aspiring model to become interested in fashion, to know how things evolved as they did and why… To know who is who in the industry. I would also advise them to treat it as a business with regards to saving, planning and separating oneself from the highs and lows.
One thing people may be surprised to find out about you.
One thing that might be surprising to find out about me is that I was rejected by a couple agents in my early years. I only had one test shoot to show them but they told me I wasn’t right for this industry. My eyes were too small and that I wasn’t photogenic enough. I knew where I was headed though. Nothing they said phased me in the least. I just kept my goals in sight and charged ahead.
