Answers to Q&A
Why did you want to become a model?
I wanted to see more diversity in the modeling industry. I grew up in a small town in rural Ontario, where I was often the only kid who looked like me. Then I’d turn on the tv, or flip through a magazine and not really see anyone who looked like me. When I was in grade seven I submitted very interesting digitals to the top agencies in Toronto thinking maybe I could be a person the next little human can see and help them feel seen. I ended up getting scouted years later and fell in love with the exciting creative aspect of modeling I didn't originally see. I still model with the hope of people seeing themselves in an industry that used to be very homogeneous.
What makes you special?
I believe your lens/perspective on how we see the world makes everyone special and unique. The way our environments and roots mould us and the people we’re around shape us change how we view the world. The way I see and interpret life makes me special. Also the way I can nap anywhere, anytime.
What are you passionate about?
Social justice is incredibly important to me. Making sure people feel seen, comfortable and most importantly safe being themselves. I believe our laws, policies and practices should reflect that.
What are two interesting things about you?
I love Studio Ghibli movies, I could sit and enjoy them all day and I used to do high jump in high school! I’m convinced I could still jump 1.40 m
If you could give an aspiring model any advice, what would it be?
It’s not you babe, you’re just not a part of their vision. Your time will come when it’s right. If you don’t get a casting or a job, it has nothing to do with you. People have a vision when they’re looking for models or talent (or that’s what I think). It’s just not you this time. You’ll get jobs, and you won’t get jobs. You just have to go with the flow and the right opportunities will come your way.
