Answers to Q&A
What INSPIRED you to become a model?
I’ve always had a passion for fashion growing up and I knew that it was something really important for me when it came to self expression. I was obsessed with designing clothes for my dolls, I would secretly cut up some of my own clothes to use as fabric to bring those designs into life just as a little girl. Growing up in a society where I struggled with self expression and self identity, clothes, designing and fashion was my way of escape and self expression. Whether it was experimenting with my own style or being inspired by very successful models and designers. Unfortunately with where I was living at the time, this was becoming very difficult for me. As a person who was a part of the biggest minority group in my country at such a young age where my only escape was expressing myself and my creativity through my clothes and fashion being told I can't do that really was affecting me a lot. So when I finally was in an environment where I felt safer to express myself and creativity, that's when I knew I had to go pursue my dreams. I was a 17 year old girl in Toronto who had been dreaming about modelling and creating art, ready to work towards my goals so I did some research, found an agency and an agent that I felt aligned with my vision, and submitted my application. That is when I met my amazing agent Peggi who helped me through every first step of modeling.
What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?
What excites me most about modeling is the incredible opportunity to express myself in ways I never imagined while working with a team to bring a creative vision to life. Whether it’s a photoshoot, a runway show, or another project, modeling is about storytelling, creating art and transforming ideas into something visually captivating. I love working with different elements of fashion, hair, and makeup and creating something. The ability to contribute my unique voice to this creative process and work alongside talented individuals in the industry keeps me inspired.
Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?
I think it is very important to stay confident and true to yourself throughout your journey. The industry can be challenging, but being patient and believing in your unique qualities will help you stand out. Stay grounded and do not let others define your worth. Surround yourself with positive influences and people who believe in you.
Networking is also very important, and the industry is all about building relationships. I’ve found that maintaining a professional attitude and showing respect to everyone you work with can open doors.
