Answers to Q&A
Why did you want to become a model?
Modelling had never been on my radar until I was scouted. I always struggled to find clothes that I felt looked good on me so it was extra strange to have someone tell me I should wear clothes for a living.
What makes you special?
I've been in the industry for almost ten years now, which in itself is strange but I'd say my most useful trait is resiliency. It's not always easy travelling, or not knowing when you'll book your next job. Being able to ward off self doubt when it starts to creep in has helped me last for such a long time in this industry.
What are you passionate about?
I'm truly passionate about my family and building a life for my fiancée and myself. Finding meaning in life outside of going to work everyday is essential to feeling comfortable with yourself. With out my support system and loving fiancée I would have never made it this far.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
When I first started modelling I went to Europe for fashion week. After spending a week doing an exclusive for Alexander McQueen I was asked to come for a request casting for a Prada exclusive. When I got there I was the only one there, and Ashley Brokaw asked me to walk. I in my nervous state failed to see that the floor wasn't even and literally tripped and fell. The worst part is the very next season I was asked back for the same casting and low and behold forgot about the uneven floor. I tripped again! Needless to say I've never walked for Prada.
If you could give an aspiring model any advice, what would it be?
We work in an industry where as a model we are faced with rejection on a daily bases. My advice to aspiring models is to never take it personally. You never know what the client is looking for and can't blame yourself for perhaps not meeting their needs. There will always be future opportunities and clients that want to book you.
