Mother Agency (MA): Morgan Model Management

Answers to Q&A

What inspired you to become a model?

My mom of course, was the one that sent me my management’s ad for new models in Toronto! Leave it to her as usual. I had modeled a bit in the past, but it wasn’t nearly as deep as I wanted to go. I sent my probably overly-formal email introducing myself and met up with Janelle pretty quickly! Her energy was great and I immediately felt comfortable and welcomed by her, so I knew Morgan Management would be the right fit, especially with how transparent she was with any questions I had. She had this nature that made me confident she would stick to her guns while protecting me as a model. From there, it wasn’t long until I jumped into doing shoots for my comp cards. I’m the kind of person who feels fulfilled when busy, so of course it has started as a separation from my current life where I go off, shoot or walk and go back to the mundane, but I would love it to become my everyday life.

What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?

I had always been drawn to photography and not only that, but the shapes a model could create with their bodies within the art. In my mind, models are just as important to a campaign, runway or editorial shoot as a dancer is to a bomb music video. Imagine Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” video without The Royal Family Dance Crew. You just can’t! The clothing, the jewelry, the music or any part of art is the sundae and a model is the cherry on top and being that cherry is something that makes me excited to start and never finish. And of course, a big part of my wanting to become a model had much to do with the fact that no destination, no studio, no person you meet is ever the same and when they are, it feels like seeing a familiar friend. It’s a lot of “Hey, I saw you at the shoot 2 months ago! How are you!” and I’ll admit, I feel closer to people when reuniting. Then we get to collaborate and make someone's vision a reality! Seeing the finished product is always something interesting. It’s always beautiful, but I take a lot in when it comes to seeing the angles that do and don’t work for me. It’s definitely a little studying session moment for me to get better for the next job. All in all, I’m excited about improving. I want to make the client, photographer, stylist, and makeup artist feel confident in my ability and give them a great “performance.” Essentially, I want to do my part.

Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?

A healthy mix of being confident and knowing that you can also learn more can be hard to grasp, but I think it’s a way of thinking that can help you a lot in the industry. Knowing that you are the “ish” while also being able to listen and take direction easily is a superpower.

Also, in the first year of getting my Bachelor’s Degree, I was told by a professor that it isn’t so much who is the most talented, but who it is people feel they want to work with and who they know will provide a positive environment. That isn’t to say to be complacent or a push-over, but to come in with a good energy even if it’s 5:30 am goes a long way. I always remember the people who had a good spirit when working, so I can assume others do as well.

Share a fun fact about yourself!

Audible Sigh. I have ten siblings (two brothers and eight sisters). I have always been ultra individualistic in nature, so remembering that there are ten other people walking around with the same DNA as me is strange. I’ll be walking down the street, coffee cup in hand, suddenly stop and think “There are ten “me’s” running around right now.” Of course we aren’t decuplets, it still feels similar knowing that factually, there are seven people in the world that look exactly like you. You haven’t technically been cloned, but it definitely feels like it.
