Answers to Q&A

Why did you want to become a model?

Modelling wasn’t really on my mind even though I always got the comment that I should be one. I didn’t grow up wanting to be a model. I was really focused on keeping up with my two older brothers, which meant playing a variety of sports including skateboarding, street hockey, surfing, football, Taekwondo, and riding motorcycles. During my early teens, a friend of my mom’s came for a visit and suggested I do modeling. She thought it was something I would do well in, and that I should take it into consideration. Later that year my mom set up an appointment with the amazing Janelle from Morgan Model Management, and that’s where this journey started. For me, it took a few years to get the hang of it. I wasn’t the most confident in myself or my work, but with time, I got better and more confident. I practiced my poses, watched others, and started traveling. I’m so grateful for the journey so far. It hasn’t been an easy journey for me, but I’m so happy I had the opportunity. I’m thankful for those who believed in me, invested in me, and saw the potential in me, even during the times I was struggling with different aspects of modeling. Now, I’m at a place where I can say I’m loving it, even the difficult times. That’s how I started modeling. It’s not always been easy or perfect, but I didn’t give up.

What makes you special?

What makes me special is that I am fiercely strong and willing to learn from challenges. I have had many challenges and obstacles over the past 4 years.  I’ve had challenges with unexpected health problems, experiencing the loss of both of my grandfathers, and tragically losing four very close friends. I also struggle with some mental health issues that rose to the surface during some of the losses I have experienced over the years. It has definitely made me want to work even harder for my dreams and make those who are walking this journey with me proud. Walking through each of these challenging times I discovered I was much stronger than I thought I was. In modeling there are times when things don’t always go your way. During those times you have to tell yourself this is just an obstacle right now that I need to overcome and I know on the other side it’ll be more than worth it. You need to find your own kind of beautiful and never give up.  Despite what we face, we can always let our inner beautiful shine even brighter.

What are you passionate about?

I am very passionate about photography, music, dance, traveling, languages, and helping people. These are the things I love in life because there is really no limit to the way that you can express yourself. It is amazing how these things bring people together, connect people from different cultures, and impact others. I’ve always loved photography from a young age. The magic of being able to capture the moment and the beauty of something or someone will forever fascinate me. I also grew up in a culture where music, dancing, singing, and moving your hips is such a big part of how people express themselves. That will forever be running through my veins. I can’t keep still when the music comes on. I love to express myself this way. I’ve also always wanted to work and travel, and modeling has blessed me with the opportunity to do both. Lastly, I’ve always wanted to start my own organization that helps people around the World, and, hopefully, one day I will. For now I will continue helping those in need how I can.

What are two interesting things about you?

Two interesting things about me is that I although I was born in Canada, I was raised in the Dominican Republic. I am fluent in Spanish and love Latin culture, music and food. The Dominican Republic will forever be a part of me and my home. I love everything about it. Secondly, my favourite outfit to wear is a soft fuzzy top and pants with a long fuzzy house coat, messy bun, and slippers. I can wear this anywhere around the house, to the mall or even shopping for groceries. I’ve always been all about being comfortable for me. If I’m not in that, I’m at the beach in my bikini enjoying the sun, sand, surfing, and having fun with friends. I so much enjoy the tropical life

Who is someone you admire and why?

I don’t have to look far to answer this question. I really admire my Parents.  Without my parents, I can honestly say I wouldn’t been anywhere close to where I am today. They are my rock. My parents are so wise and both have helped me through different hard times throughout the years. They are great parents, but also people I consider my close friends, and have taken the responsibility of making me the best version I can be today. Who they are and what they do has had a big impact on my life. They are my greatest role models to follow and greatest blessing I’ve had in my life.  They are loving, patient, kind, selfless, and always have time and words to build me up. The love they have shown me and my siblings will always be the kind I search for. They are incredible people and I aspire to be more like them each day.
