Answers to Q&A
What inspired you to become a model?
Modelling was something that always had my interest, so when I was scouted, I considered myself lucky and made sure I didn’t blow the chance! I was doing background acting on a movie and the wonderful makeup artist making me look pretty asked, “Are you interested in modelling?”. To which I replied, “Yes!” He gave me his card and told me to contact him after the day was done. Once I contacted him, he put me in touch with his friends (spoiler alert: who are now my agents!)… We met!… They liked me!… I liked them!.. That was the very start to my modelling journey.
What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?
I have really taken a liking to fashion over the last few years, but even more since becoming a model! Trying to find clothes in which I feel comfortable in, not just physically but visually is something that I think a lot of people search for. Curating one’s stylistic persona can be a means of self-expression and showcases creativity. For myself it also helps build confidence, and being able to have this understanding of who I am through what I wear gives me a voice that I hope to share through my modelling career!
Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?
I am very new to this! I have a lot of questions myself that I am currently on the hunt for, so I have a lot of things I don’t know; but that’s okay! I’ve learnt that I am not alone in these feelings and that people within the industry are pretty welcoming with giving their better knowledge. If there is one piece of advice I can give is to try to surround yourself with creatives, and be a frontrunner in trying to start things up. Do creative photoshoots, find an aesthetic, get inspired from other models, find local runway shows that are by local designers and models! Be curious.
Share a fun fact about yourself!
When I was around 5 it was the night before my birthday. I told my mom that I wanted to stay up til midnight, but for a specific reason… It was getting close, the clock was ticking, my room was warm and soft being lit by my tungsten bedside lamp. My mom was sitting on my bed, and I was looking at myself in the mirror. I look at myself, I look at the clock; it reads 11:58PM. I look back at myself, back to the clock; 11:59PM. I keep staring at the clock, then bam! 12:00AM! Midnight! My head whips towards the mirror, looking at myself, I notice!!! That I didn’t grow…uh…why didn’t I grow? I just aged, shouldn’t I have physically grown? Like an inch at least? That was the day I realized that’s just not how it works.
