Answers to Q&A
What inspired you to become a model?
I’ve always looked up to models especially on the runway; Naomi Campbell, Anok Yai, Adut Akech, Giselle Bunchen to name a few. My real interest for it peaked at 17 when actual strangers would often stop to tell me that I should model. One day in November 2022, while I was working at KingPin in my hometown, one of my best friends sent me a link to ANM’s open casting call ‘Model Search’ in London, Ontario and she asked me to come with her. It was there, that I met the amazing and down to earth team that would soon change my life. I won first place and got the offer to sign with ANM! A week later in December is when I officially got signed to my mother agency and started my journey.
What are you most excited about when it comes to modeling?
The two things that most excite me is one, getting an otherwise slim opportunity, to travel the world, and two, meeting strikingly beautiful, talented and prominent models. Both have opened my perspective to life on new levels and I am forever grateful.
Can you share with us some advice you have for models wanting to get into the industry?
Try your best to be as kind and as present as possible. Energy is palpable and good energy makes working with a team enjoyable and not to mention, it can read through the camera! Always take every shoot as a learning experience. I always love to hear advice and criticism especially from vetted people in the industry, this allows us to see different perspectives and continue to work on our talent.
Another piece of advice is…DON’T BE LATE! Something my agents continuously reinforced in me for the first 6 months! As someone with ADHD, always being on time can be stressful. Sometimes I can still be late even when I thought I gave myself more than enough time. Things can go wrong from traffic, getting lost on the subway etc. A trick I learned was to always convince myself that things started an hour before they actually did. This gave me some wiggle room for error. Another trick is to get up extra early and have a slow start; meditate, sip your tea, journal, or whatever grounds you, before going to a shoot or meeting. This gives your body and mind some peace before anything nerve wracking and also helps with staying present.
